The Essex is an Early American backless bench defined by its long horizontal proportion, restrained construction, and quiet architectural presence. Its simple form allows it to function comfortably in dining rooms, bedrooms, entryways, and transitional spaces.
Constructed with a solid cherry seat and a painted soft maple base, the bench creates a measured contrast between warmth and structure. Shaped aprons, square legs, and a lower stretcher give the piece a grounded stance while preserving a light, disciplined elevation.
Built entirely by hand using traditional 18th-century joinery, The Essex is suited to use at the foot of a bed, alongside a dining table, beneath a window, or within an entry where flexible seating and architectural clarity are required.
