The Newbury is a traditional early American linen press, offering tall enclosed storage in a refined 18th-century form. Designed for vertical organization, its classic two-part form pairs a lower case of graduated drawers with an upper cupboard fitted with adjustable shelving—providing practical storage for linens, clothing, or household goods without excess ornament.
Handcrafted from reclaimed Midwestern barn pine, each press is built entirely by hand using period-correct joinery, including mortise-and-tenon construction secured with wooden pins and hand-cut dovetails throughout the drawers. Framed-and-paneled doors are carefully fit for long-term stability, with no nails, screws, or mechanical fasteners used in the construction.
Boards are planed smooth for a refined furniture-grade finish, while original nail holes, knots, and checking are preserved, stabilized, and sealed—allowing the wood’s history to remain visible without compromising durability. Restrained molding and balanced proportions reflect the honest utility and craftsmanship of early American furniture rather than later, more ornamental forms.
Finished by hand to preserve the character and patina of the reclaimed material, The Newbury is designed for designers and homeowners who value authenticity, proportion, and timeless form over decoration. Custom sizing, finishes, and interior configurations are available upon request.
